Sydney Byrns originally hails from Saskatoon, SK, but has been living and working in Malawi since 2010, where she now leads the WASH Catalysts venture. Her interests lie in de-projectized service delivery approaches, systems thinking for development, and strengthening weak institutions that provide essential public services. She is keenly interested in exploring how leverage points to "unsticking" systems relate to context and resource availability, and how projects need to be re-designed in order to practically work towards institutional sustainability of impacts. In a past life, Sydney received her Bachelor of Science in Biochemistry, Microbiology and Immunology from the University of Saskatchewan, where she used to conduct research on microbes that spoil beer.
